Acrylic Background Colors
The easiest way to make your Rosemaling artwork look authentic is to use the correct and traditional Norwegian background colors. You can order them from us..!We have tried to scan our color samples to be as true as possible to the originals that Joan has hand painted on a sheet of "canvas paper".
Our supplier describes this paint as "Super Premium Exterior 100% Acrylic".
It may be used on:
• Wood
• Masonry
• Aluminum
• Vinyl Siding
It cleans up with water, gives a mildew resistant coating and resists peeling and blistering.
Remember that you always can use oil paint over acrylic paint (but never acrylic paint over oil paint)
When you use oil art paint on surfaces background painted with acrylic paint, your brushes will work easier if you apply one coat of acrylic or oil varnish over the acrylic background paint prior to starting your art work. That will also make it easier to erase errors and tracing paper lines. Before applying your art work, we suggest you to lightly sand the surfaces with #600 WETONDRY TRI-MATE PAPER 3M makes this product.
According to Joan, this is the closest to Norwegian oil background paint that she has been able to find in the 8 years we have been back in the US from Norway. It also covers extremely well. We deliver these in nice 6 ounce containers that have solid screw tops that can be saved and used in the future for your painting supplies. The jars have large mouthed openings so it is easy to get a foam style brush inside.
